Rajan Suri is Emeritus Professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his Bachelors degree from Cambridge University (England) and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Rajan founded the Center for Quick Response Manufacturing and served as its director from 1993 to 2007. More than 200 companies have worked with the Center on understanding and implementing QRM strategies. Rajan has published two books on QRM as well as numerous articles in professional and academic journals.

Rajan combines his academic credentials with substantial industry experience. He has consulted for leading firms including Alcoa, AT&T, Danfoss, Ford, Hewlett-Packard, Harley-Davidson, IBM, John Deere, National Oilwell Varco, Pratt & Whitney, Rockwell Automation and Trek Bicycle. Consulting assignments in Europe and the Far East, along with projects for the World Bank, have given him an international perspective on manufacturing competitiveness.

Rajan is also President of Suri Consulting and Seminars, LLC, an organization that provides QRM training  for companies and industry associations.

Awards

Rajan was recently honored as one of only 10 people to be inducted into the Industry Week 2010 Manufacturing Hall of Fame.

In 2006 Rajan received the prestigious Albert M. Sargent Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) for the creation and implementation of QRM philosophy.

Other awards Rajan has received include:  

• 1999: Bestowed with status of Fellow of SME
• 1994: IEEE Control Systems Technology Award
• 1990: Outstanding Simulation Publication from The Institute of Management Sciences (TIMS)
• 1988: LEAD Award from SME
• 1981: Eckman Award from American Automatic Control Council

Rajan has also been frequently recognized for his excellence in teaching, including twice receiving the Alpha Pi Mu Industrial Engineering Professor of the Year Award at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
